Student Reflection Examples:

"For my rock, paper, scissors drawing, I created tension by having the rock on top of a crumpled paper with some scissors stabbing the rock and some look like it’s cutting the rock. I chose to arrange the elements this way because I wanted to create balance throughout the artwork but still have the tension at the same time. I thought it would be interesting because my rock kind of resemble a heart shape. My favorite part of my drawing is the scissors because I think I did well on drawing the scissors and having the correct value for it. The most difficult part for me of this drawing was the rock because there were so many small detail that I had to draw and it took a long time to get the texture right. It was very hard for me because I’ve never been very confident about my drawing and to create all the detailed texture that my rock has was very challenging. I learned how to created more realistic looking texture with charcoal during the process of creating this drawing."

"For my rock, paper, scissors drawing, I created tension by arranging paper airplanes to look like their crashing down onto the rocks, and this created contrast between two sides, darker and light. I chose to arrange the elements this way because it was an original concept, and I wanted to create a dramatic backdrop with evidence of a losing battle happening between the paper airplanes versus the rocks.  My favorite part of my drawing is the scissors because they have realistic shading, are life-like and fit with what the drawing is about. The most difficult part for me of this drawing was the detailing on the left rock  because the details were extremely small, and it was hard to place shaded and non shaded lines in the correct places. I learned that it’s important to have brightness in the rocks as well as the paper during the process of creating this drawing."
